Linklaser originated in the late 1980s eighties through a co-operation of individuals with with a shared vision of producing the best products in their area of operation.

Linklaser’s business was and is to provide best of breed process control software to industries including, but not limited to steel, pharmaceuticals, power generation, waste water treatment, energy management, gas distribution etc. The original software produced was under strict quality control (ISO9000) and arising from work in in pharmaceuticals, FDA approved. Linklaser worked amongst industry giants such as ABB, Siemens, Honeywell, Foxborough, Fischer Porter etc in Europe and the US and found considerable success in a number of the above mentioned industries particularly pharmaceuticals, and steel production.

An independent evaluation by Electrawatt in Switzerland, covering five of the top vendors plus Linklaser judged Linklaser the best in terms of performance, functionality, interoperability and value for money. The original software was largely written in ‘C’ under Microware’s OS-9 operating system and latterly was rewritten in ‘C’, this time under ‘NIX and was fully POSIX compliant. Operator workstations of choice were Sun Sparc Ultra (Solaris) and DEC Alpha (Ultrix). The use of “commodity” workstations removed the short-term advantage over competitors, causing a turn of century pause in operations, but the economics now offer broad new opportunity.

Hardware capabilities have advanced in leaps and bounds, and prices have fallen by orders of magnitude, but the underlying requirements of Process Control software are the same and a new iteration of Linklaser will port the original SCADA software to ARM based embedded computers; this time with the intention of volume sales instead of niche high profile projects – LinX is the result: a base software that will be customized for each end user.
